President's Report
14/08/10
Dear Colleagues
NZCPPA President’s message 3 March 2011Today I met with Brother Pat Lynch (NZCEO) and Michael Smith (CEO of Caritas New Zealand). A teleconference was held with a key person from Catholic Social Services, Saint Vincent de Paul, the Christchurch Schools’ Office and the NZ Catholic Secondary Principals’ executive. The purpose was to have a coordinated approach to helping the neediest in Christchurch. What is needed more than anything at this time is cash and plenty of it. Of course prayers will too.Caritas announced today that the NZ Bishops have agreed that 25% of the Lenten Programme giving will go to the Caritas earthquake fund. There are two avenues that your school can choose to donate through that will directly benefit the Catholic communities in Christchurch.· Donate to Caritas who will support Catholic Social Services, St Vincent de Paul, the Catholic Schools’ Office and other agencies working with those most in need in Christchurch.· Brother Pat Lynch has started a hardship fund up to keep children in Catholic schools, particularly at this time of redundancies, unemployment and uncertainty. Primarily this fund will be used to the meet attendance dues and schooling costs of those most in need.Donations can be made to; NZCEO Earthquake Donations Appeal 060501 0677036-35I urge member schools to support one or both of these Appeals.I learnt today that because of the danger posed by the Dome on the Basilica, the pupils and staff of St Paul’s Dallington are likely to have to relocate for the third time since last year’s quake. The dome needs to be removed and this work could take up to six months to complete.Marian College is badly effected and is having to relocate to another secondary school site and share facilities on a split shift arrangement.United we are one. May we be the face of Christ to our colleagues at this time. Kia kaha. John CoulamPresident NZCPPA
